1. Well tray selection

Seedling plug trays can be divided into polystyrene foam plug trays and plastic plug trays according to different materials. Plastic plug trays are widely used. Most growers choose to use black discs, which have good light absorption and are more conducive to the development of seedling roots.

2. Matrix preparation

Plug seedlings mainly use light media such as peat, vermiculite, and perlite. The basic requirements for the seedling substrate are sterility, no eggs, no impurities, water retention, and good air permeability. The general ratio of peat, vermiculite and perlite is 3:1:1. Add 2kg of diammonium phosphate, 2kg of high temperature expanded chicken manure or 2~2.5kg of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer to 1m3 of substrate. In principle, new substrates should be used for seedling cultivation, and carbendazim or chlorothalonil should be used for disinfection before sowing.

3. Seed treatment

In order to prevent irregular seedling emergence, the seeds must be pre-treated, that is, seed selection, soaking in warm water, chemical seed dressing, washing, germination, etc., and sowing after treatment.

4. Sowing

Plug seedling cultivation can be divided into mechanical sowing and manual sowing. Mechanical sowing is divided into automatic mechanical sowing and manual mechanical sowing. The operating procedures of automatic mechanical sowing include loading plate, hole pressing, sowing, covering and watering. The seeds should be placed in a well-pressed tray with one seed in the center of each hole. Seeds should be placed horizontally to avoid missed sowing. After sowing, cover the original matrix and use a spatula to scrape from one side of the well plate to the other to remove excess matrix and make the surface of the matrix and cells smooth.
